Renovating Lives

by Judy Klipin

I started working with two new clients today.  I am often asked how I manage to keep the number of sessions I do down to eight or ten a week when I seem to keep adding new clients to my practice.  The answer is that I have a high turnover of clients.

Most of the people I work with come to six or eight regular sessions before having the skills and tools to coach themselves. Many come back for top-up sessions every month or couple of months, and sometimes they will come back after a couple of years.

I love working like this – doing intensive scaffolding-building and skills development, and then being given the opportunity to be an ongoing witness as my clients build and renovate their lives.

It is intensive work and, because of the intensity, changes are quick and profound.  And as someone who is a Quick-Start and has a propensity to immediate gratification, it suits me perfectly.  But I build deep and meaningful (well, to me anyway) relationships with my clients.  So it is also very gratifying – in a less immediate but no less satisfying way- to receive news and updates and to be connected to them in an ongoing manner.

I love meeting new clients and exploring new avenues with them.  I love watching their rapid design and development of their changing lives.  I love sending them off with an internal toolbox of skills and resources to continue the work we started.  And I love seeing them again when they come back for a top-up and to learn some new skills to add to their arsenal.

I think it is safe to say I love everything about my work!

Except perhaps completing my tax returns……
