Coaching Tonic

by Judy Klipin

I was doing some consulting work in another country the whole of last week so I wasn’t doing any coaching.  (Or blogging, as you may have noticed).

I often find it hard to give myself permission to go away, or to stop coaching for a period.  I worry that my clients will lose the momentum they have built up.  I am concerned that I will lose the thread of the work we are doing together.  As an adult child, I have an unconscious compulsion to keep an eye on things all the time.

But every time I come back after having been away, I chuckle at myself.  Because not only do we manage to pick up again perfectly, but also the momentum, rather than having been lost, has somehow been intensified.

The work that I have been doing with my clients this week, after a week of thinking about other things, has been (if I say so myself) sensational.   Each session with each client has had an almost magical quality.  Critical insights have presented themselves and enormous shifts have taken place as a result.

I am in awe of the coaching I have been a part of this week.

And I firmly believe that the time away, doing something different, allowed for the change in gear and intensity.

Which is a very good thing, given the fact that my three-week Summer holiday is fast approaching.  I will happily go on holiday, certain that only good things will come of it.
