F is for…

by Judy Klipin

…Friends and Family

It is so easy to be all things to all people and no-thing to yourself.

Drop everything to look after a friend in need?  No problem.

Postpone a self-care task to take care of someone else?  Without thinking twice.

Honour commitments you have made to others? Absolutely.

Honour commitments you have made to yourself?  Not so much.

Would you treat your best friend/child/spouse the way you treat yourself?

If you are to avoid burnout, resentment and disappointment, you need to learn to be your own best friend.

…Freedom from Fear

At the base of most of our anxieties  and our limiting beliefs, expectations and actions is fear.

Fear of pain.

Fear of rejection.

Fear of loss.

Fear of intimacy.

Fear of failure.

Fear of success.

Most of the fears we fear will never materialize, even if we allow ourselves to test the waters.  But we allow fear to hold us captive – we get to the point where we fear the absence of fear.

Finding freedom from fear means accepting that you have no real control over what will happen.  It means accepting that without risk there can be no reward.  It means accepting that growth comes from experience.

And it means trusting that no matter what does happen, you’ll handle it.

As the song says, “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.”

…Fun

Adult children have a hard time having fun – it’s one of the defining characteristics of being an adult child.  That’s what being very responsible and reliable from a very early age will do for you.

It can feel hard and unfamiliar but give yourself permission to have some fun – whatever that looks like to you.

…Fabulous

You are fabulous.

Believe it, because it is true.

What other ‘F words’ would you like to add?

Feeling overwhelmed in your life, work or relationships?
