P is for….

…Peace and Quiet

We lead such busy lives that often the only time we are still is when we are sleeping.  But that means that we don’t make any space for ourselves to be still and reflect – to stop and take stock.  That is how it gets to be the 1st of July without our noticing April, May and June!

Find (or make) some peace and quiet for yourself every day so that you can pay attention to all the little things that are going on in your life – they add to become the big things!

…Please yourself (please)

We are taught to think about others, to be considerate, to not be selfish.

All well and good, but who is thinking about you?

When we wait for others to consider us and give us what we need, we can end up feeling resentful and let down when they don’t.

The truth is that is your job to look after yourself.  Instead of pleasing others all the time, please: please yourself!

…Put down (so you can pick yourself up)

One of the issues I am passionate about is burnout.  I believe that there are a number of reasons we get burned out:

Not only do we too much, but we do too much of the wrong things – we do too many things that are wrong for us.

We say yes when we mean no – we agree to things that we don’t want to, or can’t, do.

We don’t ask for help – and end up trying to everything for everyone else which often means we don’t do anything for ourselves (see above).

If you want to keep your energy and enthusiasm levels up, and keep your relationships happy, you need to be honest.

  • Do the right thing(s).
  • Say no to things that aren’t good for you or that you don’t have time for.
  • Ask for help when you need it.

What can you put down so that you can pick yourself up?

…Patience

Making changes to how we are is not a walk in the park – it takes time to undo the thoughts and patterns we have developed over a lifetime.

Keep practicing, trust the process and be patient – the changes will happen.  And when they do – you will be so very pleased!

Feeling overwhelmed in your life, work or relationships?
