Act Out Your Frustrations

by Judy Klipin

A new year can bring with it feelings of despair.

After a good holiday spent with people we love, doing the things that we love, we often come back to reality with a little bump. The bump of sameness and stuck-ness. Of boredom and being-back-on-the-hamster-wheel. Of “is this all there is to life?”

It is easy to sink into a stagnant pool of self-pity and sorrow.

Easy, but not particularly pleasant.

Because when we stagnate feel even worse. The only things that grow are toxic and harmful; we start believe our negative thoughts and they multiply.

Every so often we need to stir things up a bit – get things moving, get things breathing.   Get rid of the slime and make space for the sparkle.

We need to take action.

It doesn’t necessarily matter what the action is, or how big or small it is, we just need to make a move.

I am always blown away by how many people ask about coaching at the start of every year. About a third actually sign up for coaching and start a supported shake-up process.  And while I may not hear from the other two thirds again, I am prepared to bet that just the act of sending that mail asking about coaching is enough to stir things up a bit and let some light in.

Any action is an antidote to stagnation.

If you’re feeling stuck, bored, despairing or frustrated, if you’re having an existential crisis or suffering from ennui or if you’re just plain tired, my advice to you is do something.

Anything.

Go for a walk.  Start a journal.  Learn a new language. Do a handstand. Speak up.  Walk away. Make that phone call….

Whatever you do will let some light and air in, and that can only make you feel better.

Feeling overwhelmed in your life, work or relationships?
