3 Steps to Getting Unstuck

by Judy Klipin

Feeling stuck is horrible. That sensation of spinning in infinity on a hamster wheel (often of our own making but sometimes not), or being imprisoned in a web that we have weaved around ourselves is nasty beyond description.

Feeling stuck sucks.

It keeps us in situations that we don’t want to be in, repeating the same patterns over and over again.

We often don’t realise that things are getting sticky until we are, well, stuck.

Few things are as horrible as feeling trapped. And few things are as wonderful and releasing ourselves.

A quick and easy way to get unstuck is to ask yourself these three powerful questions:

 1. What am I feeling?

Try to put a name to both the (often interconnected) physical sensations you are experiencing and the emotional feelings. You may be feeling cold, hungry, tired, weepy, sad, irritable, depressed, frustrated, ashamed, scared, lonely…).

Naming our feelings is very empowering. As soon as we name it we stop being so scared of it.

 2. Why am I feeling this way?

Now try to work out why you are feeling those feelings. For example, you may be hungry and irritable because you didn’t have lunch, or maybe you are sad and weepy because your child has left home for university. You may feel scared because you are not sure that you have enough money to pay all your bills this month.

Understanding our feelings and why we are experiencing them is very reassuring. When we know the reason behind (or below) our feelings, we can address it.

3. What do I want to do about it?

Choose a course of action that will address the feelings and their causes. The action you choose can be as simple as eating something now, to stocking up the fridge and pantry with delicious and easy-to-eat foods so that you do not experience low-glucose-grumpiness again. And so on.

Taking action is very liberating.

If you could do with some help getting unstuck in matters of health or heart, I can help!
