On Reconciliation and Referrals

by Judy Klipin

First off, let me confess that I didn’t do so well with the emailing. I started off well and answered last night’s mails this morning but then forgot my resolution and found myself replying to mails throughout the afternoon.  Until I remembered and stopped myself.  Tomorrow is another day….

I had a lovely morning before I got to the mails.  I was asked to participate in a radio discussion on reconciliation as today was the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks in America.  We had a really soulful and quite inspiring and uplifting conversation that soon turned to compassion, empathy and forgiveness – all topics that make frequent appearances in my coaching room.

After the radio show I spent some time emailing (of course) and wrote a proposal for a training programme for my consulting work.  And then it was back to my coaching room to see the afternoon’s clients.  I had another three this afternoon and felt like I had put in a good day’s work by the time I closed off my day.

One of the accomplishments I feel most pleased with today was my decision (with the client) to refer a client on to another coach because my fees (as a Master Coach) are too high for her.  I have long struggled to feel comfortable with charging people who cannot afford my rate and have, since I started coaching, given subsidized rates to lots of clients.

A large motivating factor for my training other coaches to use my materials was so that I could refer clients on to less experienced (but equally competent) coaches who can offer them the same coaching for lower fees.  I am so pleased that I am now able to do that – with 4 certified Adult Child Coaches (so far – 2 in training still and more to start training soon, from all over the world) I can happily send clients to people I trust to serve them well, without compromising my own commitment to myself or undervaluing my experience, skills and expertise.

I am ending my day feeling very satisfied.
