Our Attitude Informs our Activity

by Judy Klipin

Today in my self-coaching check-in I identified things that I was mostly already aware of and have seen and thought about before.  Contrary to what one might imagine, this makes the exercise very powerful and important – the fact that the same things keep coming up is an indication that I am repeating some of the same mistakes I have been making.  The fact that I am still so satisfied in most areas is also an indication that I really love what I do and am very happy with it.  Not that I really needed to do an exercise to know that, but it is a nice confirmation to get nonetheless.

I sat in a coffee shop which is the best place for me to do work of this nature and got caught up in thinking about what areas of my life to enhance and what changes to make.

It was bliss.

The really interesting thing for me today was that, without even thinking about it I divided my ‘To-Do’ list into Activities and Attitudes.

After I completed the Wheels of life and Coaching, I thought about how I would like to enhance what was working and address what needed to work better.  I brainstormed ideas in each category and then distilled all the ideas down into a list of Activities (about 6 for each of life and coaching) and Attitudes (about 4 in each).

It is an important distinction to make; committing to being more productive during working hours so that I can be more present to my family in the evenings and on weekends is an attitude, whereas booking for my next level of Transactional Analysis training is an activity.

Attitudes inform how we do activities (and activity sounds so much nicer and more fun than task).

Having an attitude of ‘more sleep, less sugar’ is also going to help me to do all the activities I identified, because I will be more rested and have more healthy energy to expend on what is really important to me.  No more spending mindless hours on Facebook and only going to bed after midnight.  Even if most of my Facebook friends are in the USA and many hours behind me….

I am clear on my priority attitudes and activities for the next few months.  Bring them on!
